This article advances a two-part thesis based on Platonic and Augustinian teaching methods: 1) Plato’s method of dialectic was formally homologous to a higher level of material reality in order to unlock the level of discourse generated by his interlocutors to talk about their experiences of the sensory world, and 2) Augustine’s homiletics was homologous to the style of the Biblical authors thereby unlocking scriptural opacities and guiding the audience toward truth.
